Introducing SAREC: Schuylkill Alliance Regional Emergency Communications network: In its prototype stage SAREC is a new way for the Chamber to serve you. It is designed to keep you up to date on regional emergencies during the workday. We have been in contact with all of the municipalities served by The Schuylkill Alliance and have field tested it to a small degree. In a regional emergency SAREC would broadcast email to our registered members. Examples might be a chemical spill that forces an evacuation. SAREC is designed to let you know where evacuees from schools or elder care facilities might be taken or alternative travel routes if roads are closed. SAREC has four redundant locations, three in Montgomery County and one in central Chester County. To date it has a high threshold of determination. It is not used for elementary road closures, construction or weather conditions except as the may pertain to interruptions of SEPTA service on specific routes with high levels of civilian employees. It will be used in any declared state of emergency. You can help us develop the system. We’re soliciting trivia questions related to your business with a prize. We use it to test the timing, accuracy and response to the system. So far the response has been very strong.
